2017 Continental GT V8 S, 31k miles, weekend car, lives in the garage at Horseshoe Bay. i have had it on my regular auto policy since i bought it in 2023 and the renewal just came in at 3,140 a year for full coverage with a 1,000 deductible, up from 2,600. i asked the agent what they would pay if it was totaled and she said actual cash value, which on a Bentley means whatever an adjuster finds on the internet that week.

so i am looking at agreed value. the collector carriers want mileage limits, a locked garage, a second daily driver, and they want you to be a certain age, which i am. the quote i got was 1,380 for 5,000 miles a year with a 105,000 agreed value. that is half the money and a known payout.

what do the other Bentley and older AMG people do. is there a catch on the agreed value side i am not seeing, like they fight the claim or they do not cover hail, because the hail in april took out a neighbor's Range Rover and hail is my real fear out here, not a crash.

went agreed value on the E63 in 2024 for the same reason, the regular carrier renewal went up 30 percent in one year. two things to read closely. the mileage limit is real and they ask for an odometer photo at renewal, and if you are over it they can reduce the payout. and the other car requirement means you have to keep a daily driver on a regular policy, which i do anyway. hail is covered under comprehensive on mine with the same deductible as everything else, i asked that exact question because Stone Oak got golf balls in 2024 too.

the catch i ran into when i looked into it for a friend's Aston: agreed value policies usually have a use clause, no commuting, no business use, and some of them say no driving to work at all, even once. if you take the GT to the office one day a week that is a problem when they pull your phone location in a claim. read that paragraph twice.

keeping this one in the lounge since it is an ownership question more than a repair. the one thing i will add from my dealer years: if you ever have a claim on a Bentley, the shop matters more than the carrier. there are two body shops in San Antonio that are Bentley certified and the regular carriers will try to steer you to their network shop, which is not one of them. the agreed value carriers generally let you pick. you have the right to choose the shop in Texas either way, the rules are at tdi.texas.gov, but it is a fight with some carriers.

the GT4 is on agreed value at 4,000 miles a year and i went over in 2024 because of the Sisters trips. they did not cancel me, they moved me to the 6,000 tier and the premium went up about 180. so it is not the end of the world, just call them before renewal instead of after.

one more thing, the umbrella. my regular carrier wanted every car on their policy to keep the umbrella, or they wanted the collector carrier to show a liability limit that matched. took two phone calls. ask before you move it.

moved it. agreed value at 105,000, 5,000 miles, 1,000 deductible, hail under comprehensive in writing, shop of my choice, and my regular carrier accepted the liability limits for the umbrella after i sent them the declarations page. 1,380 a year versus 3,140. the odometer photo went in with the application. thanks all, the office day question was the one i had not thought of, and the answer on my policy is no commuting, which is fine because i am retired.
